Teikoku Oil Co., Ltd. is founded as a semi-government company to unify the existing Japanese oil exploration companies at the time.

Becomes a private company.

Begins water-soluble gas development at the Minami Kanto Gas Field (Naruto Gas Field).

1962

Completes Japan's first long-distance natural gas pipeline between Tokyo and Niigata Prefecture (Tokyo Line).

1966

North Sumatra Offshore Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (precursor to INPEX CORPORATION) is founded as a company promoting the independent development of overseas oil resources in accordance with a contract signed with PERMINA (now PERTAMINA).

Discovers the Attaka Field in the Offshore Mahakam Block in Indonesia.

1973

Japan Oil Development Co., Ltd. (JODCO) is founded.

Acquires interests in the ADMA Block located offshore Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

1977

Changes its corporate name to Indonesia Petroleum, Ltd.(Its Japanese corporate name is changed in 1975).

1979

Discovers the Minami Nagaoka Gas Field containing Japan's largest natural gas reserves in Niigata Prefecture.

Begins production at the Minami Nagaoka Gas Field following completion of the Koshijihara Gas Plant.

Completes the Oyazawa Gas Plant.

1998

Acquires interests in the Offshore North Caspian Block in Kazakhstan; Permit WA 285-P offshore Australia; and the Masela Block offshore Indonesia.

Discovers the Kashagan Oil Field in Kazakhstan and the Ichthys and Abadi gas fields in the Timor Sea.

2001

Changes its corporate name to INPEX CORPORATION.

2004

Acquires Japan Oil Development Co., Ltd. (JODCO).

Listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

2005

Production starts at the ACG Oil Fields in Azerbaijan.

2006

INPEX and Teikoku Oil integrate their management and establish a joint holding company, INPEX Holdings, Inc.

Reaches a Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Ichthys LNG Project in Australia.

2013

Starts up the Naoetsu LNG Terminal in Japan.

2014

The concession agreement for the Upper Zakum Oil Field offshsore Abu Dhabi is extended.

Acquires a participating interest in the ADCO Onshore Concession (now the Abu Dhabi Onshore Concession) in Abu Dhabi.
Joins the Sarulla Geothermal Independent Power Producer Project in Indonesia.

2016

Starts full-scale operations of the Toyama Line in Japan.
The dispatch of crude oil from the Kashagan Oil Field in Kazakhstan starts.

2017

The concession agreement for the ACG Oil Fields in Azerbaijan is extended.

2018

Acquires an interest in the Lower Zakum concession offshore Abu Dhabi.
The concession agreement for the Satah and Umm Al-Dalkh Oil Fields offshore Abu Dhabi is extended.
