INPEX Holds Biannual Forest Management Event in Niigata, Japan

INPEX held its thirteenth biannual reforestation event on October 23, 2016 as part of Niigata Prefecture’s Forest Management Support Program. The event was held in the Fudosawa Area of Nagaoka City, an area commonly known as Kitsunedaira Donguri-no-Mori that stretches over approximately 0.8 hectares (8,000m2).

INPEX has held this event since the fall of 2010, with the aim of further developing relations with the local communities and enhancing environmental awareness among INPEX employees through forest management activities in areas where the company runs operational sites. INPEX expects to continue this activity over a period of 10 years until 2019.

A total of 123 participants including INPEX employees and their families, local community members, members from a local organization and members from the Nagaoka bureau of regional promotion took part in the event. Activities included the replanting of a sacred ginkgo tree sapling that was felled in 2014 due to management reasons and thereafter grown on company-owned land in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. Participants also took part in a ceremony to wish for the sapling to once again grow into a sacred tree of the Fudosawa Area in the future, while children enjoyed making accessories.
