INPEX speaks at an international conference hosted by Malaysia's Sabah Forestry Department on the company's climate change response efforts through forest conservation.

INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX) participated as a speaker in the "Virtual 11th International Conference on Heart of Borneo (HoB): Moving Forward in the New Norm," an online international conference held on November 9-10, 2021. INPEX introduced its initiatives on forest conservation, which is one of the pillars of the company's business development strategy towards a net zero carbon society by 2050.

The HoB initiative is jointly led by the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam and was launched in 2007 to promote rainforest conservation in the central region of the island of Borneo. This conference was hosted by the Sabah Forestry Department of Malaysia under the HoB initiative, and involved 1,085 participants from 17 countries and 372 organizations. The speakers at the conference were composed of representatives of various organizations such as government agencies, UN agencies, universities/research institutes, private companies and NGOs.

As one of the speakers, INPEX showcased its support for the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve REDD+1 project in Indonesia through which it acquires carbon credits, and outlined the company's prospects for future engagement in forest conservation projects in line with INPEX's "Business Development Strategy - Towards a Net Zero Carbon Society by 2050" announced in January 2021.

1 REDD+ is a concept defined at the 2010 United Nations Climate Change Conference that augments REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) with the active prevention of forest degradation through forest management and enhancement of carbon stocks through forestation.

INPEX subsequently received a letter of appreciation from the Sabah Forestry Department for the company's contribution at the conference.

INPEX is committed to responding to climate change through reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing carbon removal by way of forest conservation. The company will also aim to proactively support projects that can help safeguard invaluable biodiversity and improve the living standards of the local communities in which it operates.
